The honest answer is that almost every ceramic coating quote you compare is really two numbers added together: the coating, and the paint correction underneath it. Shops that quote one low number are usually leaving the second one out.
We have been applying coatings at Galaxi Sound in Kendall for years, on everything from daily-driven Civics to garage-kept exotics. Below is the real 2026 pricing, what actually drives it up or down, and where a cheap quote quietly costs you more.
What ceramic coating costs in 2026
Pricing is set primarily by the rated lifespan of the coating and the size of the vehicle. These are professional, installed prices — not the price of a bottle off a shelf.
| Coating tier | Rated life | Sedan / coupe | SUV / truck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry (consumer-grade) | 1–2 years | $400–$700 | $500–$850 |
| Mid-tier professional | 3 years | $700–$1,200 | $850–$1,400 |
| Professional | 5 years | $1,200–$1,800 | $1,400–$2,100 |
| Multi-layer flagship | 7–9 years | $1,800–$2,500+ | $2,100–$3,000+ |
Add-ons commonly quoted on top:
- Glass coating (windshield and side glass): $100–$250
- Wheel faces and barrels: $150–$350
- Trim and plastics: $100–$200
- Interior leather and fabric coating: $200–$450
- Coating over existing PPF: usually $150–$300
The 5 things that change the price
1. Paint condition. The single biggest variable. A coating is optically clear and permanent — it magnifies whatever is beneath it. Swirls, oxidation, and etching all have to come out first.
2. Vehicle size and complexity. A Suburban is not a Miata. More panels, more edges, more masking. Budget 15–25% above sedan pricing for a full-size SUV or truck.
3. Coating grade and warranty. A certified installer applying a warrantied 5- or 9-year product is paying for training, licensing, and a registered warranty in your name. That cost is real, and it is why the same "ceramic coating" ranges from $400 to $2,500.
4. Coverage. Paint only, or paint plus glass, wheels, trim, and interior. Each surface is a separate prep and application.
5. Who applies it, and where. A coating needs a dust-controlled, temperature-stable bay and a proper cure window. Applying one outdoors in Miami humidity, in the sun, is how you get high spots and streaking that require re-polishing to remove.
Why paint correction is most of the bill
This is the part most price comparisons miss. Ceramic coating does not remove defects — it seals them in, sometimes for years.
| Correction level | What it removes | Typical cost |
|---|---|---|
| Light polish (1-stage) | Light swirls, haze, minor oxidation | $350–$600 |
| 2-stage correction | Moderate swirls, water spot etching | $600–$900 |
| 3-stage / heavy | Deep swirls, sanding marks, severe oxidation | $900–$1,200+ |
On a black or dark-colored car this matters more, not less — dark paint shows every hologram and swirl. If you want the deeper background on what polishing actually fixes, we break it down on our paint correction in Miami page.
How long ceramic coating actually lasts
Manufacturer ratings are measured under controlled conditions. South Florida is not controlled conditions.
| Manufacturer rating | Realistic in Miami (parked outside) | Realistic (garaged) |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 years | 9–16 months | 1.5–2 years |
| 3 years | 2–2.5 years | ~3 years |
| 5 years | 3.5–4 years | 4.5–5 years |
| 7–9 years | 5–6.5 years | 7–8 years |
Plan on roughly 70–80% of the rated life if the car lives outdoors here. What closes that gap is maintenance, not the price of the coating:
- Wash with pH-neutral soap only. Degreasers and dish soap strip the sacrificial layer.
- Never run a coated car through an automatic brush wash. That is the fastest way to swirl a coated finish.
- Dry with a blower or a clean plush towel — do not let Miami's mineral-heavy water air-dry on the panel.
- A compatible SiO2 topper every 6–12 months restores water beading and extends the coating's working life.
- Book an annual inspection. Catching a failing section early is a touch-up, not a re-do.
Is ceramic coating worth it?
Run the arithmetic against the alternative. A quality wax lasts about three months in Miami. Keeping a car waxed properly means four applications a year at $120–$200 each — roughly $480–$800 annually, forever, with no defect protection.
A 5-year coating at $1,500 works out to about $300 a year, and it also resists UV fade, bird droppings, lovebug acid, and water spot etching that wax simply does not stop.
It is not worth it when:
- You are selling or returning the lease within a year — a sealant is the smarter spend.
- The clear coat is already failing or peeling. A coating cannot rescue dead clear coat.
- You are looking for rock-chip protection. That is paint protection film, not coating. Many owners do PPF on the front end and coating over the top of everything.

What Miami specifically does to a coating
Miami is one of the harshest paint environments in the United States, and it changes the value calculation:
- UV index 9–11 most of the year. Sustained UV is what fades and chalks unprotected clear coat.
- Salt air. Coastal humidity carries salt inland well past the beaches. It accelerates corrosion at every panel edge and wheel.
- Mineral-heavy rain and afternoon storms. Water evaporates fast in the heat and leaves mineral deposits that etch into clear coat — this is the number one paint defect we correct in Miami-Dade.
- Lovebug season, twice a year. Their remains are acidic and will etch paint within hours in direct sun.
- Sun-baked street parking. Most Miami cars have no garage, which is exactly the scenario where a coating earns its money.
Red flags on a cheap ceramic quote
If a quote comes in dramatically under the table above, check for these before you book:
- No correction step listed. The prep is the product. If it is not itemized, it is not happening.
- "Ceramic wax," "ceramic spray," or "graphene spray." These are sealants, not coatings. Real coatings cure and bond; sprays sit on the surface for weeks.
- No brand and no warranty paperwork. A professional coating is registered in the owner's name with a serial number.
- Mobile application outdoors. Dust and direct sun during cure produce high spots. There is a reason coatings are applied indoors.
- A one-hour turnaround. A proper correction-and-coat is a one- to three-day job, including cure time.
- No paint depth reading. Polishing removes clear coat. A shop that does not measure it is guessing with your paint.
Frequently asked questions
How much does ceramic coating cost for a sedan? $400–$700 for an entry 1–2 year coating, $700–$1,200 for a 3-year, and $1,200–$1,800 for a 5-year professional coating — assuming the paint does not need correction first. Correction adds $350–$1,200.
Why is ceramic coating so expensive? Because you are paying for labor, not chemistry. The bottle is a small fraction of the cost. Decontamination, claying, and machine polishing are what take the hours — and a coating locks in whatever is underneath, so the prep has to be right the first time.
How much does ceramic coating cost in Miami? The same national range, roughly $400 to $2,500+, but most Miami cars land mid-to-high because sun-baked paint needs correction. Longer-rated coatings are a better value here than cheap 1-year products.
Is a $200 ceramic coating real? Almost never. At that price you are buying a ceramic-infused spray sealant with no correction included. Ask for the coating brand, the rated years, and the warranty document.
Does ceramic coating cost more for a black car? The coating costs the same. The correction usually does not — dark paint shows swirls and holograms far more clearly and often needs a two- or three-stage polish.
How long does ceramic coating last in Florida? Roughly 70–80% of the manufacturer rating if the car parks outside. A 5-year coating behaves like a 3.5–4 year coating in Miami. Correct washing and an annual topper close most of that gap.
Does ceramic coating replace waxing? Yes — and you should not wax over a coating, because wax masks the hydrophobic layer. Maintenance is a pH-neutral wash plus an optional SiO2 topper every 6–12 months.
Where to go from here
If your paint is in good shape and the car lives outdoors in Miami-Dade, a 3- to 5-year coating is the best-value protection you can buy — provided the correction underneath it is done properly.
